Trees Make Neighborhoods Great

Studies show that trees provide benefits to neighborhoods worth many times the cost of their planting and upkeep. Trees increase property values, make neighborhoods desirable and save energy, too. Learn why trees matter to your community, how to maintain community trees and increase Lancaster’s tree canopy.

The Coalition for Smart Growth invites you to attend a public meeting to learn about the power of trees to build communities and make our neighborhoods great.

Speakers:

Dr. Bill Elmendorf, Assistant Professor and State Extension Specialist for Community Forestry at PSU’s School of Forest Resources. Prof. Elmendorf teaches urban forest management and provides technical assistance to municipalities, agencies, and volunteer organizations in the Commonwealth. He has been principal investigator on
several studies considering growth, comprehensive planning, and natural resource conservation.

Julianne Schieffer, Penn State Extension Urban Forester for SE Pennsylvania. Ms. Schieffer has degrees in urban forestry and botany and tree pathology and specializes in trees and natural resources impacted by humans and infrastructure; she has empowered thousands of Community Tree Stewards and Tree Tenders to care for their community trees.
